In today's globalized world, the influence of excessive screen time has become highly debatable topic among individuals and some people believe that screen time should be monitored by parents. I completely agree with this view, this is mainly because this kind of monitoring can prevent the influence of harmful contents and helps them to develop good viewing habits.
Most children can easily influence by what they see on TV and they are willing to repeat that in real life. That's why it is important to control screen time and choose the useful content or to put a limit viewing time. Otherwise, they might watch programs that does not suit their age and that can encourage to develop negative behaviour. As a result, it is possible to negatively impact their thinking and behavior.
Moreover, constant supervise control can avoid watching TV excessively. When parents put a limitation to screen time, children may spend their time for useful activities such as, reading a book, interacting with their friends and engaging in sport. This contributes positively to their physical and mental development. Another key aspect is choosing right educational and useful programs in order to enhance child's knowledge. For example, shows about science, history, or nature broaden children's horizon and help them learn in school. For this reason, parental controls ensure effective use of television.
In conclusion, I believe that constant supervision of parents are important . This not only protects children from inappropriate content but also encourages them to use their time productively and develop positive viewing habits.
Examiner feedback
The essay effectively communicates a clear stance and follows a logical structure. However, the overall score is limited by recurring grammatical inaccuracies and some awkward word choices that prevent it from reaching a higher band level.
Task Response - 7
- The response addresses all parts of the task and presents a clear position throughout the essay. - Main ideas are relevant, though the development of the 'harmful content' point is somewhat generic and could benefit from more specific examples. - The conclusion effectively summarizes the main arguments presented in the body.
Coherence & Cohesion - 7
- Information is organized logically with a clear progression from introduction to conclusion. - Paragraphing is used effectively, with each body paragraph focusing on a distinct central topic (protection vs. development). - Cohesive devices such as 'Moreover' and 'Another key aspect' are used, though they feel somewhat mechanical.
Lexical Resource - 6
- An adequate range of vocabulary is used (e.g., 'excessive screen time', 'broaden children's horizons'). - Some errors in word formation and collocation are evident (e.g., 'harmful contents' instead of 'content', 'constant supervise control'). - The introduction uses a 'globalized world' cliché which is not entirely relevant to the specific prompt.
Grammatical Range & Accuracy - 6
- A mix of simple and complex sentence forms is attempted, but accuracy is inconsistent. - Frequent errors in subject-verb agreement occur (e.g., 'programs that does not', 'supervision... are'). - Errors in voice are present, specifically missing passive constructions like 'can be easily influenced'.
