The table gives information about the total population and the proportion of males and females aged 15 and 75 in the UK between 1911 and 2011.
Overall, the total population of the UK increased over the given period. The percentage of people aged 15 decreased, while the proportion of people aged 75 increased considerably.
In 1911, the total population was 36.1 million. It grew to 46.1 million in 1961 and reached 56.1 million in 2011. For the 15-year-old group, the percentage was 1.86% in 1911, but it fell to 1.48% in 1961 and 1.23% in 2011. The number of males aged 15 was 334,200 in 1911 and increased slightly to 354,400 in 2011. However, the number of females decreased slightly, from 335,700 to 333,700.
