The line graph compares production and consumption of sugar in India between 2001 and 2011, with the figures given in millions of tonnes.
Overall, both production and consumption showed a general upward trend. Production fluctuated significantly over the period, while the figure for consumption increased gradually, despite a slight dip in 2004.
In 2001, production stood at about 18 million tonnes, before experiencing a decline until 2005, reaching its lowest point at around 13 million tonnes. The figure then soared to a peak of approximately 28 million tonnes. Production subsequently fell markedly to about 16 million tonnes in 2009, before recovering sharply to around 26 million tonnes by 2011.
As regards consumption, the figure increased considerably from approximately 15 million tonnes in 2001 to 20 million tonnes in 2003. It then dipped slightly to just under 20 million tonnes in 2004 before climbing gradually to around 23 million tonnes by 2011.
