The diagram illustrates the step-by-step process by which smoked fish is produced on a small scale.

Overall, this man-made linear process consists of nine main stages, commencing with gutting the fresh fish and culminating in the final distribution of packaged smoked fish products.

To begin, the raw fish is thoroughly gutted. After that, it is placed into a liquid mixture of salt and water to pickle for about 30 minutes. The marinated fish is then subjected to drying, usually under the natural sun. Once this stage is complete, the fish is steamed on a specialized device for around five minutes. Next, the steamed fish is put into dedicated buckets to undergo a smoking process using wood smoke in large vats for approximately 30 minutes.

Once it has been completely smoked, the fish is coloured yellow in order to look visually appealing. Afterwards, the coloured fish are packaged into specific boxes and made ready for market distribution.
