The two maps depict how the layout of the South Wing of Walton museum changed between 2008 and 2012 after it was redeveloped.
Overall, the building underwent a number of significant changes over the period, involving the addition of new facilities, the removal or conversion of existing rooms, and improvements to accessibility. As a result, the layout became considerably more modern and functional by the end of the period.
Turning first to the left and central parts of the building, the stairs was converted into a lift, while the gallery, a shop, and the path remained in their original position throughout the period. In addition, a new terrace area was introduced next to the entrance hall, and the surrounding area was reorganised to accommodate this development.
As for the remaining areas, a new restaurant was added in the south-west section of the building, while the cloakroom was relocated. Meanwhile, the exhibition room, a self-service cafe, and a children's play area were constructed adjacent to a reading room and lift. Consequently, the overall layout became more versatile and better equipped to meet users' needs.
