The line graph compares the percentages of female members of parliament in five European countries—Germany, Italy, France, the UK and Belgium—from 2000 to 2012.

Overall, the proportion of women in parliament increased in four of the five countries. The UK experienced by far the most dramatic growth, whereas Belgium was the only country to show a decline towards the end of the period. Italy recorded the highest figure in 2012. ([IELTS Fever][1])

In 2000, Germany had the highest proportion of female MPs, at approximately 34%, followed by Italy at around 27%. France and Belgium had lower figures, at about 25% and 17% respectively, while the UK had the smallest proportion, at roughly 3–5%. Over the following years, Germany's figure rose gradually to about 37% in 2012. Italy, meanwhile, increased much more substantially, reaching approximately 40% by the end of the period. The UK saw the most striking increase, climbing from only around 3–5% in 2000 to roughly 23–24% in 2012. France also experienced steady growth, reaching about 30–32%. Belgium followed a different pattern: its figure initially increased to around 25–29%, but then declined slightly, finishing at approximately 23–24% in 2012. ([ielts69.com][3])
