The maps illustrate how an area of Shalton village changed between 1910 and 2010.

Overall, the village underwent significant development over the 100-year period. While the school and post office remained unchanged, many new houses were built, and several small shops were replaced by larger commercial buildings.

In 1910, the area was mainly residential, with three houses located along High Street. Opposite these houses was a large area of trees. A grocery shop was situated on the left of the central house, while a bakery was on the right. On School Road, there was a school, a butcher's shop, and another house. The post office was located on the corner where School Road met London Road.

By 2010, the area had changed considerably. The number of houses on High Street had doubled to six. The wooded area had been replaced by a new road leading to five additional houses, and four more houses had been built along London Road. The school and post office remained in the same locations. However, the butcher's shop was replaced by a supermarket with a car park, and the house on School Road was converted into a bank. In addition, the grocery shop was replaced by a café.
