The table demostrates the top five methods advanced people and the general public believe will help reduce global warming. Overall, experts tend to favor large-scale, technological solutions, whereas the general public prefers practical actions that individuals can take in their daily lives. Notably, both groups agree that using cleaner energy is an important measure.
In terms of expert opinion, the most recommended approaches are mainly scientific and environmental interventions. These include using cleaner energy sources and increasing tree planting, as well as more advanced methods such as carbon capture and storage. Additionally, experts suggest enhancing the growth of ocean algae and reflecting sunlight away from the Earth, both of which require sophisticated technology and global cooperation.
By contrast, the general public prioritizes simpler and more immediate actions. Reducing the use of petrol-powered cars and improving home insulation are considered effective ways to lower emissions. Furthermore, people believe that lifestyle changes, such as eating less meat and turning off unused electrical devices, can also contribute significantly to tackling global warming.
Examiner feedback
This is a very strong response that provides a high-level summary and detailed comparison of the data. The primary strengths are the clear organization and the sophisticated overview. To improve, the writer should ensure total accuracy in spelling basic words and use more precise collocations when paraphrasing (e.g., using 'specialists' or 'professionals' instead of 'advanced people').
Task Achievement - 8
- The response covers all the requirements of the task appropriately, identifying the five methods for both groups. - The overview is clear and well-developed, successfully contrasting the 'large-scale' focus of experts with the 'lifestyle' focus of the public. - Key features (like the shared interest in cleaner energy) are skillfully highlighted.
Coherence & Cohesion - 8
- Information and ideas are logically sequenced with a clear progression from the introduction/overview to specific details for each group. - Cohesive devices such as 'In terms of', 'By contrast', and 'Furthermore' are used effectively and naturally. - Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the two distinct perspectives.
Lexical Resource - 7
- The resource is sufficient to allow for some precision (e.g., 'environmental interventions', 'sophisticated technology'). - There is a minor spelling error in the very first sentence ('demostrates' should be 'demonstrates'). - The phrase 'advanced people' is a slightly unnatural paraphrase for 'experts', though the meaning is clear.
Grammatical Range & Accuracy - 9
- A wide range of structures is used with full flexibility and control. - The majority of sentences are error-free, and punctuation is handled expertly. - Complex structures like 'both of which require...' are used accurately.
