The bar chart compares the average weekly hours men and women spend on four types of physical activities, measured in hours.
Overall, men devoted slightly more time to physical activities than women in every country. Germany recorded the highest average weekly figures for both genders, whereas Italy had by far the lowest. Meanwhile, participation levels in the United States, Australia and France were relatively similar, with only modest differences between them.
Looking first at the countries with the highest levels of participation, Germany topped the ranking, where men exercised for approximately 5.4 hours per week, only marginally more than women at just over 5 hours. Australia followed closely, with males averaging around 5.1 hours, while the figure for females was only slightly lower at roughly 4.9 hours. Likewise, in the United States, men spent close to 4.8 hours on physical activities each week, exceeding the female figure by only around 0.3 hours.
By comparison, lower averages were observed in France and Italy. French men devoted approximately 4.5 hours per week to physical activities, around half an hour more than women. Italy, however, stood out for having the lowest participation overall, with both genders recording almost identical figures of about 3.4 and 3.3 hours respectively, indicating the smallest gender gap among the five countries.
